My only complaint is that it wasn't longer. I really want to see more of this story!

Thanks! Hopefully, sometime soon we'll be able to get back to this idea.

This was great. Engrossing. Hope you do come back to do more.

Thank you so much! We're working on it!

¿Is it the final version?

This is a final version of the GameBoy release, yes. But we're hoping to return to this project for a more modern platform (wink wink).

So happy I found this game and got to play it. You have a whole world going on here and are limiting it to this story. I enjoyed the pixilated art of Gwen and the music was very funky. Good story!

Thank you~ We had lots of interesting limitations caused by the game jam rules - 1k words, one character and one background art. We hope we'll get back to this world in the future :)

A very good one!

Great work!! How did you get the names of whomever is talking to display on the top left of the dialogue box in GBStudio?! Looks really polished.

GB Studio 2 has an option to "eject the game engine". You'll get the C code of the engine. As I didn't want to change JS code of the GB Studio itself, I just used global variables to store the name of the current speaker. Then, in UI_b.c I tweaked UIDrawFrame_b to actually output the name. I didn't come up with anything better than putting speaker name in the tile memory space, so the BG image became limited to 186 tiles instead of 192.
Similarly, I tweaked text output in the engine to do "blep blep" when the text is spoken by characters is printing.

Thanks for explanation! Much appreciated.

This was pretty cool!

Thank you!

This is amazing! The pixel art looks great and is clear and easy to read in the crime scene, and I love the use of text effects and font to convey the mood of crime without needing extra images! Overall very clever use of limited assets and a fun mystery to solve!

This game has made me really want to learn GB Studio.

Loved the aesthetics and did I spot an Ace Attorney reference???

Great work peeps!

Oh, thank you! GB Studio is pretty great, but, to be honest, if I had more time, I'd probably fork GB studio to simplify scripting...

And yes, there is a reference to AA:I, well-spotted! :)

Great game, such a cool concept and aesthetic! My only complain is that it is too short ;) This was my first ever jam, and seeing works like this just makes me more inspired!

Aw, thank you! Maybe one day we'll be able to make a longer project based on this jam game :)

this was super cool~ seeing it on the actual game boy as well was a delightful bonus too ^^

I have to say, it's much more playable on Gameboy, too!

this was great! i want to know what happens next!

Thank you so much! Hopefully we'll be able to tell this story properly some time in the future - but not this year, unfortunately, too many projects on our plates already :D
It warms our hearts to know that you liked this game, we're big fans of your novels!

wooooow This is amazing

Thanks ^_^

I think you would absolutely destroy the game boy competition jam that's going on right now... Here's the link: https://itch.io/jam/gbcompo21 I think there are cash prizes too!

Well, it's really short, though! But, I submitted the game :) Thank you

Neat. Compliments.

Nice and short. Now I want to see more :D

The 1k word limit is a real drag, isn't it? :D

(+2)

A neat little game with an interesting mystery. Well done. :D
